Activity
Silly Star Fireworks
Celebrate the colors of the American flag with this playful craft project! This appealing project is easy to assemble, and a fun activity for Fourth of July, election days, and other U.S. national holidays. Googly eyes, glitter, and bright paints lend extra appeal. The final result makes a fun holiday decoration, centerpiece, or even a conversation-starting headpiece or boutonniere! You can make a series of these and string them together for a festive holiday bunting.
What You Need:
- Construction paper (Red, white, blue)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Googly eyes
- Marker
- Glitter glue, or sequins (metallic, or patriotic colors)
What You Do:
- Help your child draw a large 5-pointed star on red, white, or blue construction paper and have them cut it out along the lines. Set it aside for now.
- Have your child fold paper of a different color in half two times to make a smaller rectangle.
- Ask your child to draw a star on the top of the folded paper and cut it out while the paper is still folded. This will reveal four stars.
- Cut four strips of whatever color paper remains and ask your child to fold them back and forth so they look like accordions. When they are unfolded, they'll appear springy!
- Glue the folded white strips behind the red star to create arms and legs.
- Have your child glue one star at the end of each of the limbs to create a cute firework star.
- Glue two googly eyes in place to give the star a personality.
- Encourage your child to draw a smile to complete the face.
- Your child can now use glitter glue or sequins to add even more pizzazz to their star!
